About

Eila Jameson-Avey acknowledges the Wiradjuri people–the Traditional Custodians of the land where she lives and works. She pays her respects to the Elders, and the traditional storytellers, both past and present of the Wiradjuri Nation and extends that respect to all Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islanders.

In 2015, when the site began, Eila was unsure how it would develop. Since that time a select group of followers have joined. And, since that time, she has completed numerous manuscripts and published two books.

The idea to write Simon Goes to Spain originated on a hot evening whilst holidaying in Spain with her husband, Peter, and their boys. In the evening’s quiet, with only the cicadas humming, what felt like a truck thundering under their villa woke them. It was actually a minor earth tremor, apparently common off the coast of Costa Blanca. The inspiration for the protagonist, in this first book, was Peter’s eldest son, Simon.

Eila’s motivation to write about autism came from the wish to open discussion and reduce fear around autism. And the limited improvements she witnessed–in her long teaching career–of the rights and independence of people with disability. She hopes that through her writing others will embrace diversity and celebrate humanity in all its glorious forms.

Wellworth, an adult thriller, is based in a fictitious town in Wiradjuri Country in regional NSW. The protagonist, Ally, returns to her hometown to start life over, only to uncover deadly secrets with tragic results. Eila set this story in a school–somewhere she is very familiar with. Wellworth was published by Hawkeye Books in 2023.

Eila has undertaken many writing courses. The Year of the Novel at Writing NSW with Emily Maguire, in 2015, was her first. She continues to attend short courses but in 2022 she completed a Graduate Certificate in Writing and Literature.

Feel free to wander through the site and enjoy the eclectic mix of book reviews, personal essays, poems and the occasional chapters from her books. If you have a tale about your writing journey–or any journey–please contact her or better still click follow to share your journeys together.

  1. Both books sound wonderful! Acquaintance of mine Luke Kendall has just started blogging about his journey of how to publish books. I think he calls the blog ‘atoeintheoceanofbooks’. Might be of interest, Karen Tisdell, resume writer
